Car Bento

I am ending this week with one last rice bento. This time my son wanted a "Police Car Bento." I feel a lot more comfortable using cookie cutters then rice presses and so I thought of this after seeing this amazing bento from Daisy Selalu! Her blog is amazing. Please go and visit (:

I made fresh sushi rice and added just a little salt. I pressed the rice into a car cookie cutter I have and filled in the surrounding space with scrambled eggs before removing the cookie cutter. I added cucumber stars and red pepper flowers and nori detail to complete the top.
At the bottom are car shaped whole wheat bread sandwiches with Nutella and peanuts. I used this cutter and stamp set for the sandwiches. I really love it because it is so versatile :) We also packed Kefir in a reusable drink bottle today.

Happy Friday!

Lunch Wishes

My 5YO asked me the other night to make him a truck lunch. So we looked through our cookie cutters together and he picked a fire truck and a "Zoo" truck. He helped me cut out the bread and then we decided how to decorate the trucks together. I used Nutella and a icing bag to draw the details on the trucks :) It was so much fun to let him tell me what he would like and he was so proud of his lunch!

This lunch has veggie sticks, grapes and two truck sandwiches made out of whole wheat bread and Nutella. He also packed an ice water and a yogurt!

Since my cookie cutters were already neatly set out on the counter  pretty much all over the counter my 7YO also wanted to pick a lunch :) He handed me a snowman shape and requested a vampire. I kept looking at the snowman shape wondering why he had picked that perticuliar one for the vampire until he laughed and turned it around in my hand. Pretty cool!

And this is how the lunch looked with the Vampire sandwich:

This vampire lunch turned out really cute! We packed a Chobani Kitchen Blueberry and Milk Chocolate Chip Breakfast Muffin (recipe will follow) with a bat fruit leather, "bloody" starwberries and of course the vampire :) I used Nutella and an icing bag, two candy eyes and fruit leather for his mouth and teeth. We also packed a yogurt and ice water :)

I love when my kids get excited about lunch and I love when they want to be creative and help!
They were so proud of their lunches and needless to say, the lunchboxes were licked clean by the time they got home :)

Happy Thursday!

Easter Monday

Easter Monday in Germany is still a holiday and a big part of the Easter Celebration. So, even though we had to be back to school and work today here in the US, our lunches will have the Bunny and Easter theme one more day :)

My daughter has an Easter egg sandwich decorated with Nutella and sprinkles. She also has strawberries and some traditional German Easter candy. I packed her ice water and yogurt, too.

My son has a bunny sandwich decorated with Nutella, popcorn, a half an apple with a bunny face (I just carved the bunny face with a knife - spare the eyes and lifted the peel off ) and carrots with peanut butter dip. He also has a small German Easter Bunny chocolate. In his lunchbox is also ice water and a yogurt.

My youngest son has a bunny sandwich decorated with Nutella, Goldfish crackers, cold brown rise and left over Roast beef from yesterday. He also has a little German Easter Bunny candy, ice water and yogurt.

Well, even the adults and my oldest son had delicious Roast Beef left over wraps today, mhmm. No decorated lunches but everyone had a little treat in their lunch box. I made the wraps with whole Wheat wraps, salad, shredded carrots and Roast Beef.

(I apologize for the light quality. I took the picture last night since some of us had a very early start :)

Happy Easter Monday!

Stars and other things

The lunches today are lunches I made this week but never got posted. Above is my 5 year old's wish to have a Nutella man sandwich :) So we made a Nutella sandwich and cut the Nutella man out with a Gingerbread Man cookie cutter. He has mini chocolate chip eyes and a pretztel mouth. My son also got strawberries and blueberries, peanuts with some more chocolate chips and a small silicone muffin cup filled with Goldfish crackers in star and moon shapes :)

This lunch I made for my 6 year old who wanted a Star Wars lunch on a busy morning, so I just made a chicken and salad sandwich, placed two star crackers from the Goldfish Adventure Mix on it after drawing on eyes with food marker and of course we needed light sabers. Luckily, I found two and done was the Star Wars themed lunch. We also packed more Goldfish crackers in star and moon shapes and  Strawberries with carrot stars :)

Happy Friday and Happy St. Patrick's Day!
