Leap Day Snack

My kids like leap days and because I watched the episode of 30 Rock the other day in which they made up Leap Day William and a whole tradition on how to celebrate - I could not resist to make a Leap Day Snack :)

In the "traditional" colors of yellow and blue, there is a yellow corn muffin with a flower pick and an inside out silicone muffin cup with blueberries and bee picks :)

Happy Leap Day everyone! And watch out for Leap Year William :)

Read your Food

This is my Read Across America lunch :)

Two peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches cut in half with rainbow fish crackers, two strawberry Fig Newtons and popcorn. The letters are stenciled out of organic fruit strips and for the Dr. Seuss letters I used food coloring :)

Hope your kids are enjoying this Read Across America week as much as mine :)

Happy Wednesday
and watch out for that snow coming to New England,

Look Into My Eyes

We had fresh bagels this morning so everybody got to take one to school. I made cream cheese bagels with ham and added blueberry grape picks and half an apple with the first letter of their name. The letter in the apple is stenciled out with a bento letter cutter and then I cut the letter also from cheese and layed it on top to make it more fun.

I am currently trying to get better at making eyes and made these eyes from cheese and blueberries. I cut the eyes with a cheese cutter and added blueberry pieces to complete the eye. I attached the cheese part of the eye with an uncooked spaghetti to prevent it from moving until the kids open their lunches later today ;)

New Lunchbox Princess

My daughter received a new lunchbox for her birthday and today she wanted to have it for lunch and of course with a princess sandwich :)

The hair is made with carrot shavings as is the mouth and for the eyes and hairband I used sprinkles :)

We also packed pretztels and grapes with bento picks :)

Happy Monday,

Snow Delay Day

We woke up to a snow surprise this morning. It only snowed a couple of inches but the kids don't have to be in school until 10 am and are already hoping for enough snow to be left after school to make a snowman.

So, to make sure they will have a snowman today - if the weather cooperates or not - I made a snowman lunchbox :)

The sandwiches are peanutbutter sandwiches cut into circles with a round cookie cutter from THIS set and decorated with carrots and chocolate chips. I also packed green and red grapes and a car shaped egg on Strawberries with snow sprinkles. Unfortunately, I am still a novice in food photography and could not light the cute egg the right way for you to see the details...But, the kids and I made them last night and I wanted to incorporate it :)
Now, we have to see if the weather brings more snow or just rain later :)

Happy Snow Delay Day, CT!

Stay at Home Lunch

Two of my kids are home from school today and just wanted a simple Tortellini lunch. So I made the tortellini and added picks with blueberries, green grapes and red grapes and some salad with carrots with mini beef hot dogs and carrot cheese picks and a pick with edamame :)

Since three of us were home today I made a bento for myself, too, and realized that I have a lot to learn about making an appealing adult lunch. I will file it under first try ;)

Have a great Thursday,

Birthday Lunch

Today is my daughter's birthday and of course she wanted a special lunch. I made her a Nutella sandwich and used different sized glasses to cut a smaller and a bigger circle sandwich. Then I wrapped it in fruit strips to make it look like ribbon and decorated the sandwich with big sprinkles. I also packed green grapes and used these cute bento picks to create a garden. To make it look like the bees and ladybugs were in a garden I used pineapple leaves from a pineapple I bought yesterday to make it look like grass. To finish the birthday lunch I broke a popsicle stick in half and added each half to an Oreo cookie. And in the end, she had a birthday in a box :)

Tuesday with Love

I had originally planned something fun for Fat Tuesday but we are all feeling a little queasy and I thought keeping it simple might be better.

So instead, I made a rice ball caterpillar that I decorated with ham, cheese, cucumber skin and left over soup crackers. I would have used Nori if I had planned a rice bento but cucumber skin sliced thin with a peeler is a great substitute if the lunch is not sitting for a long time. It is also great for decorating sandwiches and I love using it for making eyes ;) I also added an apple to the lunch, applesauce with sprinkles and some carrots and celery.

Hope everyone is enjoying Fat Tuesday without any queasy tummies out there!

Space Friday

Today's lunch is all about Outer Space. I made the Nutella sandwich pocket with my Wonderbread Crust Cutter and Sealer which I love. It makes great crustless sandwiches that are also sealed which in turn makes them so much easier and mess free to eat at school if stuffed with Nutella or PBJ. I also decorated the sandwich with some fruit strips and punched out stars, a moon and of course an Alien ship. I packed Goldfish crackers and also put some star shaped cheese and pepperoni on top top go with the theme. Hope the boys will like it ;)

Enjoy!

Quick Thursday

My oldest son and I had a conversation last night during which he asked me what my Mom used to pack for me. This is an Oma-inspired lunch and I so wish I had had field pepperweed because she liked adding those to my sandwiches :)

Wednesday Lunch

Today I made pretzel bagels with either just cream cheese or cream cheese, ham and salad for the boys. I used the left over watermelon from yesterday and also added a brownie heart. They picked grapes and Goldfish crackers in the morning to complete the lunch. These were quick and easy since all the fruit was precut from the day before :)

Valentine's Day Lunch

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Lunch today is heart shaped Nutella sandwiches with X and O sprinkles, X and O cookies and some grapes with a heart shapes Watermelon.

For my older son I packed the same Nutella sandwiches with sprinkles but added a yoghurt and had to package his watermelon a little more leak proof.
And since he did not want his lunch to have too many hearts I added a cute Valentine's lunchbox note instead. They were a free printable from http://www.mooo.com.au/valentines

Enjoy!
