Halloween Stromboli Lunch

Halloween is only 8 days away (my kids have been reminding me about 462 times a day) and it's time for some Halloween themed lunches in my house.

We love our Nude Food Movers Rubbish Free Lunch Boxes and used them today to pack a fun Halloween Stromboli lunch:
  • a pepperoni and spinach Stromboli
  • pizza sauce
  • a monster kiwi

Strombolis are very easy to make and my kids love them. I don't add pizza sauce to mine but simply a filling like spinach or pepperoni and cheese. These are fail proof and easy and if you make enough for lunch and dinner you can take care of two meals at once! Gluten Free on a Shoestring has a great tutorial on her blog on how to make and fill these. If it has to go fast I simply use pizza dough from the refrigerated section in the supermarket. I use about 3 refrigerated doughs (the kind that comes in a can) to make enough for lunch and dinner for 6 people.

And this cute Monster Kiwi was simply a peeled Kiwi with a kiwi peels kut into a monster mouth.

Halloween Mini RFLB

National Nude Food Day Lunch - mamabelly.com

I am a Nude Food Day Ambassador this year trying to help keep plastic wrappings out of schools and to encourage others to use reusable lunch boxes. Using reusable lunch boxes is not only better for the environment but also better for your wallet. The average size family goes through over 500 plastic baggies a year, just for lunches, and the average school-age child generates 67 pounds of lunch trash per school year. Replacing disposable lunch items can save you up to $400/year!

"Halloween is Near" Easylunchboxes

Halloween is only 22 days away and I decided it's time to break out the Halloween decorations. Mornings have been hectic and time is not always on my side, so these are all "5 minutes or less" lunch ideas. Adding a few cupcake rings or fun wooden spoons can dress up any regular lunch and make it spooky, fun or festive.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Schools are opening today again after Hurricane Sandy with a delay but they are opening and so we packed lunch - one more Halloween lunch for everybody :)

We packed popcorn, applesauce, a German dye-free candy, a cereal bar, Somersaults Cinnamon Crunch Crackers in our Mini Dippers and two peanut butter sandwiches decorated with seaweed and grape jelly - I was still working from my hurricane stash and had not been able to go to the store for any fresh food :)

I just used my nori punches to punch the shapes of the eyes and mouth and glued them to the bread with grape jelly. The cheeks on the bat sandwich are dots of grape jelly as well - I also added a spider ring and a Frankenstein Pop Up from the Party Store.

Everybody got the same lunch but I personlized them with the spider rings, Pop Ups and some Cupckake picks I had.

The kids loved seeing all the different fun things in their lunch today :)

Boo!

Same lunch as above. I was surprised that I was even able to put together a Haloween Lunch with the limited choice of food we had but since we had a 2h delay everyone helped :)

My youngest son even picked two different spiders to make it extra creepy ;)

EEK!

Despite the storm my First Grader has a little Halloween Part at school today and I packed him a special snack box with all dye-free foods so he can participate in the celebration.

He chose more popcorn, Italian Cocoa Cookies, Organic chocolate chip cookies and a special German Hazelnut wafer. he loved putting more ghosts, spiders and of course a monster in his special lunch box.

Happy Halloween!

Be Safe tonight and Have Fun!

Pardon my Light - there is a storm coming...

So there is a storm in the air - literally. While preparing and hoping it will not hit too hard we still have eat - so we are packing lunches even though schools are closed :) However, it was omnious and dark this morning - so please pardon the picture quality. Last year, we had no power for 11 days. Let's hope that will not happen this year >.<

Lunch was simple but still in the spirit of Halloween today. Chocolate spread bat sandwiches with little liquorice bats, a cereal bar and apples as well as honey crackers and an Italian cookie, Goldfish crackers and a chocolate spread Pumpkin.

I also used our new lunchboxes today but due to the poor lighting I will do my review next week :)
Packed in our Go Green Lunchbox are cheese and crackers, Chobani Champions Banana Honey yogurt, a pretzel roll with cold cuts, a cereal bar and apples and red oranges.

Boo!

Pumpkin Lunches

My kids asked for pumpkins in their lunches today and here they are:

.

I packed our yubo with a chocolate spread sandwich pumpkin, Chobani vanilla yogurt with a frozen peach yogurt pumpkin and some pistachios. I don't have a pumpkin face cutter so I just cut the shape with a vegetable knife and added a leaf :)

For this lunch I cut up some apples and carved one of the bigger pieces into a pumpkin, also packed a cheese crackers with a Mummy pop up and another chocolate spread pumpkin sandwich. This pumpkin did not come out quite as good as the first one o-O

Trick or Treat Halloween Blog Hop

Halloween is just 2 weeks from today and my kids are already busy planning their costumes and Anticipation is running high at my house. My kids love every Halloween themed lunch these days and I am excited that Bento Bloggers & Friends is having a Halloween Blog Hop today to give everyone some ideas for Halloween lunches :)

Read through my post and at the end click the Blog Hop button to see what my friend Rina packed for lunch!

But first, here is what I packed for lunch today in our yubo lunchbox:

I made a spooky haunted house filled with chocolate spread and decorated with melted chocolate and caramel window shutters. The witch is flying into the night lit up by cheese cracker stars and of course a moon. Also packed are vanilla yogurt with a frozen peach yogurt pumpkin in the middle and a scary purple radish.

The yogurt and frozen pumpkin are fun to make and very easy! My friend Michelle posted a great tutorial on her page for pumpkin shaped frozen pumpkin yogurt  HERE. I opted for peaches to color my yogurt since my kids have a food dye intolerance but cannot wait to try pumpkin yogurt ones, yum! I simply bought a pumpkin shaped ice cube tray at my local Dollar Tree and then added plain vanilla yogurt and about 4 slices of frozen peaches into my food processor.

I mixed it until light orange and filled it into the ice cube tray. I popped one yogurt pumpkin out this morning and added it to the yogurt. The yogurt ice cube will melt but normally keeps it's shape until lunch time and will keep the yogurt cold in the meantime :)

I found these colorful purple radishes at a local farm and could not resist carving them since their purple skin was just perfect for Halloween. I just used a vegetable knife and carved a face in the radish and lifted off the purple skin to reveal the white inside :)

I hope my kids will enjoy this spooky Halloween lunch and I hope you enjoyed it, too!
