New Lunchbox Fun

We have a couple of new lunch items at home and my kids were excited to try them out today. We had a snow day yesterday so it felt like a whole new start into the week today but it is already Wednesday, hooray!

Lunch is packed in our new Nude Food Movers Rubbish Free Lunchbox and we also packed one of our new Funkins reusable napkins today { Reviews coming soon!}

We packed two Christmas peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,

organic vanilla yogurt, sprinkles in a panda container and a little chocolate snowman.

We also had enough room for a cereal bar and tangerine and I tucked in the Christmas themed Funkin as well.

What did you pack today?

It finally snowed yesterday and my kids were thrilled! We had a slight delay for school this morning but were so busy making pancakes and enjoying the slow morning that lunches are simple - but still fun:

  • strawberries
  • and a Enjoy Life bar

Our Easylunchboxes are filled with:
  • pear cubes
  • pretzels
  • a chocolate snowman
  • and a Pepperoni and Salad Rudolph Sandwich

These Easylunchboxes are similar but filled with:
  • pear cubes
  • prezels
  • a peppermint yogurt star
  • and a plain Rudolph pepperoni sandwich

I also made a morning snack for my daughter in our Innobaby Din Din platter:
  • crackers
  • pretzels

Happy St. Nicholas Day - Nikolaus

Since I am from Germany my family celebrates Nikolaus. The kids put their shoes outside the front door on the night of December 5th and if they were good Nikolaus fills them with sweets and candy. We always also leave a carrot for Nikolaus' donkey and he eats it every year! My kids love this tradition and not only were their shoes filled...

I filled their lunches with Nikolaus Cheer as well:

We packed our Easylunchboxes with:
  • a candy cane striped apple
  • pretzels with a yogurt covered pretzel and a mini chocolate Nikolaus
  • a Nikolaus peanut butter and jelly home made Uncrustable
and we found a great matching Lunchbox Love Card to make this lunch fun and special!

 Happy Nikolaus day!

Nourish Pouch Review {with Giveaway}

After all the recent mold and maggot reports in Baby and Kid food pouches I decided that our apple sauce and pudding food pouches have to be replaced. At first, this did not seem to be an issue since you can find a lot of different food pouch choices on Amazon and I still have cute animal ones for my 4 year old. But exactly that became the problem. My boys did not want to tote around penguins and clearly marked reusable baby food pouches - not cool, Mom! So I searched the Internet for plain and "older kid friendly" food pouches and surprisingly found very little. Granted food pouches are not really marketed towards older kids. If you do have a picky eater or sensory kid however who would enjoy a smoothie, pudding or apple sauce if it was in a pouch then you have little choice.

Thankfully, I did find the great people at Nourish with Style and they were generous enough to send me some of their pouches to try out!

Look at these colors! I loved them - box and all - as soon as they arrived at my door!

Nourish sent me both of their designs: the blue chevron food pouch and the polka dot food pouch. They are sold separately in 5, 10 and 20 packs. Plus, pink chevron is coming soon!
The ultimate test of course was the lunch box test since my daughter already announced that they are all hers (Sorry, honey!).

We love them! They are plain enough to send with your growing child but not as expensive as others so if one gets lost they are not irreplaceable. Thumbs up from our family!

This lunch was packed in a Laptop Lunches bento box and contains a home made Lunchable:

I like that they are very easy to clean and fill due to their wide opening! No need for a filling station or funnel! Just spoon or pour right into the pouch!
TIP: Do not overfill! Test first if the pouch will close before adding to much food and causing a spill!

Caps and spoon attachments from disposable pouches will fit these!
TIP: the first time you open the pouch cap it will sound and look like the disposable ones! I have had questions about this before! They will close securely after the first opening!

Here are my Pros and Cons:

Pros:
  • Sold in packs of 5, 10, or 20 so you can buy a few or a lot
  • Phthalate Free, Latex Free, Lead Free, BPA Free
  • 5 ounce size
  • can be warmed and frozen
  • design is appealing to all ages
  • easy to clean and fill
  • work with caps and spoon attachments of disposable food pouches if you saved them
Things to consider:
  • as Nourish says themselves: These pouches are awesome, but they're not Fort Knox. If overfilled, stepped on, misused, mishandled or closely scrutinized by a brilliant toddler mind - spills, squirts, and explosions could ensue. Watch the caps as they can be a choking hazard. As with anything, use common sense and enjoy!

Disclaimer: Nourish with Style sent me a 5-pack of their food pouches for review. However all opinions are my own.

Happy Birthday, Marc Brown!

Yesterday marked Marc Brown's 67th birthday! Happy Birthday! We love all his Arthur books and of course the Arthur Show on PBS. And since over 65 million Arthur books have been sold in the United States alone and his books, apps, e-books and TV shows are being enjoyed by children in 80 countries around the world - we thought it would only be fitting to celebrate his birthday with an Arthur themed bento lunch!

This lunch is a simple open faced peanut butter sandwich with melted chocolate, jelly and candy eye details. I placed another slice of bread at the bottom of the sandwich so my kids can easily make a sandwich out of Arthur and enjoy the jelly, peanut butter and chocolate filling.

Happy Birthday, Marc Brown!

P.S. Of course this lunch was served with yogurt and a second container with fruit and veggies to round out the meal.

Please also visit The Little Crooked Cottage to see my guest post there, plus if you missed the hilarious round table interview on Mr. Pig Live! yesterday - a timber wolf, a lion and a great white shark from CARNIVORES where the guests, go read it now.

Carnivores - a Literary Lunch

Carnivores by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated by Dan Santat is a hilarious book that portraits what happens when some of the world's best known carnivores - the lion, great white shark and wolf - share that their feelings get hurt when they are labeled as meanies. In turn the three decide to go on a vegetarian diet, but find they don't have the stomach for it. Ultimately they go back to being their true selves, even if it does mean they eat cute animals.

We packed a delicious lunch fit for vegetarian Carnivores in our Easylunchboxes:
  • a roaring lion Nutella sandwich with chocolate details and candy eyes
  • scary pumpernickel peanut butter timber wolf with chocolate details and candy eyes
  • several forest strawberries
  • a frightening apple shark with almond details and candy eyes and
  • sea creature cheese crackers

Head over to the Little Crooked Cottage to read the exclusive interview with the Timber Wolf, the Lion and the Great White Shark on Mr. Pig Live! and see my lunch over there, too! I wonder if they ate it all?
